Meet Dr Stephen Mace.
Steve leads our team here at HDIS and is the new gun in town for easy and stunning modern dental implants in Hawthorn. Bristol-bred and Melbourne-made since ‘07, he’s swapped the UK’s grey skies for Australia’s blue and has never looked back.
With a Masters in Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry, Steve has taken his diverse dental background and focused on the areas of implants and oral surgery. We like to think of him as the king of complex dental gigs, using his hard-won expertise to build beautiful smiles for his patients.
When he’s not revolutionising smiles, Steve’s life is pretty lively with four kids under 12. And as a die-hard Arsenal fan you can also often catch him up at 3am, cheering on his favourite team.

Frequently Asked Questions.
How can you offer dental implant treatment so cheap?
As we focus on implants, there are great economies of scale, and efficiency.
For example, while your implant is being placed, the neighbouring dental chair will be prepped for the next patient, and so on. Preparing for, and cleaning after, an implant can take up to half an hour, aside from your actual time in the chair, and we aim to eliminate this waiting time by keeping our surgeon busy!
Do you use cheap or inferior equipment or implants?
Categorically no. The two implant brands we use are Osstem and Nobel Biocare, both of which are in the top 5 dental implant companies in the world.
Do you use dodgy overseas dental laboratories?
Again, no. We only use reputable, fully certified dental labs here in Victoria, with genuine branded implant componentry rather than cheap replicas.
Are you experienced?
The practice is brand new, opening in January 2024, but our main dental surgeon, Dr Stephen Mace, has placed over 1000 implants in the last decade with great success, and is widely experienced.
